Proposed Haast-Hollyford road

Proposed Haast-Hollyford road

I do not agree with this because it will spoil the wilderness and animals and plants will die from all the equipment used to make the road. All though this will make it easier to go to Milford Sound it will also mean more people going there and making it more difficult to get a place to stay and more traffic. This will cost a lot more then expected as they will need to make more hotels restaurants and shops for tourists and if you think about there’s not really enough room without cutting down the native trees and the reason people go there is to see the native bush.

People will also shoot animals from their trucks and because they’re moving so fast they may only injure it not kill it leaving it stumbling around in excruciating pain until it dies a slow, painful death. This road will turn NZ’s natural beauty into a dump from rubbish people throw away. The remote parts of the South Island will become just a normal place. Fiordland National Park will become a place just like Greymouth.

Thank you for reading my opinion on the proposed Haast-Hollyford road.

  2. hi Jack, Mum here. You have made some good points - especially about the environment impact. Perhaps expand more on this as people don't just go for native bush - also beautiful scenery, native birds and animals, peacefulness and isolation, outdoor activities (tramping, hunting, kayaking etc). Why do you think people will start shooting animals from their vehicles? Are you being an egg! What about adding something about the expense of building and maintaining this road? It will cost millions, when some of our current road network isn’t that great.
