St Paul's Cathedral, Summer Learning Journey

St Paul's Cathedral is in London, It was built in June 1675 and it took a decade to design and 40 years to build. The reason it was built was to replace the great cathedral that perished in the great fire of London. It was opened in 1708 and it was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The crypt in the cathedral is the largest crypt in western Europe, the first person to be buried in the crypt was its designer Sir Christopher Wren. The two largest bells have names Great Paul and Great Tom, Great Tom is sounded for a royal death, the death of the Bishop or the death of the Lord Mayor of London.

  1. hi Jack, that's some great information on St Paul's Cathedral. I've been there, and it's a beautiful building. There's heaps of amazing churches and cathedrals in Europe. Charlotte and I went to a concert in a small 11th century church in France which was a fantastic experience. I hope you get to travel to Europe some time! Mum

  3. Hi Jack

My name is Allie and I am the cluster manager for the Toki Pounamu cluster. You have done a fantastic job with this acitivity.

You have given us so much information about St Paul's Cathedral. It is truly a beautiful building.
You can understand why it took 40 years to build as it is a huge building. Imagine what the stained glass windows must look like in it!

It is fantastic that your Mum is commenting on your work! She is lucky enough to have been to Europe to visit some of their amazing buildings Hopefully you can follow in her footsteps and travel over there as well.
I have never been there either, but it is definitely on my bucket list of places to go.
Where would you like to go first?

Well done Jack, I really enjoyed reading you post and love the amount of effort that you have put in.

    Keep up the great work!

    Until next time

    Allie :)

  4. Hi Allie Jack here, the place I think I would like to go the most would probably be the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco which Mum and I are going to see in a couple of weeks.
